Our Think God retro ringer t-shirt is kind of a blast from the past! For those of us who grew up in the 1970’s, the ringer tee with its period designs featuring Coke, Dr. Pepper, the music bands, faith-based Jesus Is My Friend, movies like Star Wars and let’s not forget the DIY iron-ons.

In recent years, the ringer tee has made its vintage Americana comeback and the newer generations are gobbling them up. The shirts themselves are stylish in a simple sort of way with the added touch of nostalgia through graphic design.

Why does 1970’s faith style still matter because faith still matters? Not to mention, the ringer tee is back making it also matter. Wearing a Christian ringer tee brings back the memories of vacation bible school or bible camp for the oldies. Those were the days of odd color greens, mustard yellows and it was even cool to wear browns. 

The inspiration for this graphic design came from the 1970’s. We will let you guess from whence. Our goal was to create this design so that everything felt retro, vintage, and nostalgic. This meant the font types had to be period and popular at the time including the color of the text. Some of the most prevelant colors used were the mustard yellow and browns. Here we duplicated a 70’s pastel yellow and used a gray brown.

Of course, you have to have the ringer t-shirt to make it all come together. Modern tees don’t lend the look and feel of the era. I’ve learned that apparel design is just as important as the graphic design. In a case where one wants to create a retro feel – everything matters. 

After studying old looks from the past, we decided on the rounded appearance from the Cooper BT and ITC Souvenir font sets. The next step was artistic arrangement also obtained from studying the designs of the 70’s. The scripture verse is perfect for the overall slogan: Think God because when we keep our minds on him he keeps our mind.
