What Type of American Patriot Are You 250 Years Later?
“Washington Crossing the Delaware (1851) by Emanuel Leutze / Courtesy of The Metropolitan Museum of Art”
As we reflect on our American history 250 years later, a question looms in the fresh air no longer occupied by the smell of gunpowder from muskets and cannons or interrupted by the shouts of fighting men. Are we still American patriots or has resilience, steadfastness and goodness been driven out of us by the narratives of our present time?
“The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew.” – Abraham Lincoln, Annual Message to Congress (1862)
You know, old Abe got me thinking about something. Though our circumstances in 2026 are as vastly different from 1776 as Lincoln’s were in 1862, the American spirit that penned the resolute document we celebrate every 4th of July is not.
America’s been fighting wars against tyranny ever since its independence from Great Britain. The wars that are the biggest though come from within. Even the Bible declares in Proverbs 18:19, “A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.” The Civil War is a prime example.
Today, the inward fight continues differently in areas politically, socially, economically, philosophically, and spiritually. What America still have going it 250 years later is, In God We Still Trust! America is filled with millions of people with unwavering faith in the one true Mighty God. We are still resilient, steadfast, and resolute.
In honor of this and America’s semiquincentennial our shop, TrueLight Designs, has created a few memorabilia graphics for the American patriot. The only question remaining after the smell of political strife and social unrest has dissipated is, what type of American patriot are you 250 years later?
America 1776-2026 and Wearing Out Tyranny, Literally!
“We created these patriotic designs for those that love America and are proud to wear out tyranny with them, literally!“
Commemorative Hoodies & Apparel for the American 250th Anniversary
We began creating America’s 250th anniversary designs in October, 2025. Customers loved our first patriotic graphic the resilient American patriot you see below. So we moved forward with creating a few more variations of the same.
The resilient American graphic was made to appear very aged; that was the intention. I wanted it to feel old and worn like it endured many things. The words, 250 Years Later, In God We Still Trust, were also deliberate. By adding the word still, it gave reinforcement to the graphic’s idea. The whole graphic was distressed and the red and blue color was extracted from an old 18th century American flag using Photoshop and painted in using a faux finish style brush method.
The resolute American graphic was made using the original resilient design as its base. Using Photoshop, I changed the entire graphic color to a watery blue. Afterwards, we added an ice background image and merged it with the USA flag and map graphic and finalized it with a frosted glass filter. The last action gave it the frosted, frozen ice aesthetic. The intentio was to create the feeling of America’s values and purpose were preserved, frozen in time.
The last is the passionate American graphic. The original intention was creating a Valentine’s Day version but it took on more meaning than just a mix of two holidays. This idea allowed us to be more creative with both front and back designs than the previous two. The Passionate American was for the lady patriot. It had to represent the heart, gentleness and ultimately resurgence every early American woman brought to the fight for freedom.
Again, we took the original and changed the whole color to a light pink. Next, a graphic of a watercolor rose was used to merge with the whole pink graphic and text. We meticulously layered watercolor elements and reshaped the traditional alignment of stars to form a heart, blending strength with grace.
